Itinerary description

This is a long circuit that goes to Río Indio Centro behind El Valle de Antón and returns by Boca de Las Minas. It can be shortened quite a bit by starting from La Mesa which would make it a 25km round trip. As it is planned you have the option of riding a "taxi", a pickup truck, on the way down to Jordanal, and then walking back up by Las Minas. If you reverse the trip you can then walk the trail and hop on the pickup on the way back. The ride is $2 one-way.

This trail goes by several villages starting with Río Indio Nacimiento, Jordanal, Río Indio Centro, and Boca de Las Minas. There are several rivers where you can enjoy a dip in cool, crystalline waters. There are stores at Río Indio Nacimiento, Jordanal, and Boca de Las Minas for replenishment. Take pills or a water filter for refills although you can find faucets at this places as well where you can get good water.

The route is good for walking, running, or an overnighter. The area is very safe, the river fords are shallow, and you can always ask the locals for a little support if needed. Once you leave La Mesa you will be out of the grid: no electricity or cell phone coverage.
