Itinerary description
This is a fascinating trail. I have classified it as moderate because of the steep and slightly tricky start/end section, although most of the trail is easy. It will be clear from the map that we walked more or less as far as we could on the track and then doubled back. On the return section we headed off to both the south and north of the main track but did not come across a suitable loop. I will look again for a better return leg; probably to the south coming out into Coenembo.
1) There is very easy parking, in the shade, and the locals were very pleasant and helpful.
2) We only passed one person on the trail, a guy with two horses and a dog.
3) Most of the trail is a long straight line; this is weird and is what drew me to the trail to start with.
4) Lots of stones have been dug out of the soil and these have been formed into walls or mounds. Some may be abandoned buildings.
5) At the end of the straight section the trail turns a sharp right. This is very odd and it looks as if other tracks have been closed off; that is, it was previously a crossroads.
6) In the area surrounding the end of the straight section are lots of strange mounds. I suspect they are ancient pyramids.
7) In the furthest east-north-east, here is plenty of land being turned over to avocado farming; I doubt it is legal.
8) If you extend the line of the straight section to the west-south-west, it is aligned almost prefectly with Ihuatzio.
