Itinerary description
Walk begins on the summit of El Fuerte, above Frigiliana (near Nerja, Malaga) on Spain's Costa del Sol. The path to the summit of El Fuerte is very straightforward, either from the Baribato district (look out for the reservoir) or from the "official" starting point a couple of hundred meters out the Compete road at the information board.
So, from the summit of El Fuerte, head back down the path towards Frigiliana. You will see a saddle a few hundred meters below you. You will notice a faint trail to your left and then see a small cairn which marks the beginning of the path. The pathway itself is unclear at this point, so be prepared to go slightly wrong a number of times before reaching the ridge to your left. Look out for blue/purple/yellow spots on rocks and stick with these. The way across to the ridge looks impossible, really, but with care it can be done.
Ensure you do not descend too far down the valley - you are trying to keep as much elevation as you can.
When you reach the ridge, the rest of your journey is straightforward, and the path is clear, marked on occasions by the ubiquitous blue spots. You will head away from Acebuchal, along the ridge, to begin with. before turning onto a stone track/riverbed that winds it's way to Acebuchal.
