Itinerary description
The first section of El Camino de Costa Rica includes coastal islands that cannot be reached by roads, but are the only place to touch the Caribbean and begin a complete crossing of the country. The beaches in this area provide nesting grounds for several turtle species, all of which are protected by the government. At night, beach access is restricted, but watching the sunrise from the edge of the trees provides an inspiring start to a hike along the coast.
