There are uncleared minefields and scattered unexploded ordnance between Warde and the road that cuts across the mountains between Al Arz and Ainatta. There are farm tracks that can be followed to avoid the land mines, but great care should be taken and a knowledge of the location of the mine fields is essential.

My suggestion is that you use Google Earth to find the farm tracks running between Warde and the road cutting over the Arz Cedars. They are visible and it is possible to plot a route via these dirt tracks so that you avoid the mine fields. If you have a GPS you can plot a series of way points using the coordinates from GE to help you stay on course. Alternatively, if you have a mapping program on your computer, such as Oziexplorer, you could save large scale images of your route from Google Earth, tack them together to form one image using Adobe photoshop and then run it through the mapping program so that you end up with a calibrated satellite image of your route.
If you want to know exactly where the mine fields are, you can try talking to the Lebanese army. The mine fields, however, are not clearly marked on the ground. The army marks them on maps generally as mined areas.
Finally, there is the additional hazard of running into men with guns (shepherds concerned that you are going to steal their sheep, Hizbullah training, drug barons protecting their stash).
    Happy trails.
