Edith Falls Trail.

The Edith Falls Trail is a very easy trail within the Chaguaramas National Park. To get to the Edith Falls trail follow the Edith Falls Golf Course Road located just off the Macqueripe Mail Road at 10.71354°N -61.60945°W. This road is directly opposite Mt. Pleasant Village. Mt. Pleasant Village is a former slave community post emancipation. This village hosts the ruins of St. Chad’s Church and the tomb of Amelia Tripp. It is well worth exploring before or after the trek to Edith Falls.
This area of the country is quite picturesque and full of wildlife. You will most certainly encounter lots of different bird species including the Blue-crowned Motmot (Momotus momota), the Rufous-tailed Jacamar (Galbula ruficauda), the Streak-headed Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes souleyetii), and the Channel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos vitellinus) as well as the Red Howler Monkey (Alouatta seniculus) along this very short trail. It makes for a lot of very good pictures.
The Edith Falls trail starts just beyond the Golf Course at 10.72584°N -61.62058°W. This trail is very easy, clearly marked and straightforward. However, it involves four river crossings so monitor the weather and act accordingly. There are quite a lot of mosquitoes along this trail as well so be aware and take the necessary precautions. Edith Falls is a "spray type" waterfall and flows only in the “rainy season” that runs from late June to about the end of December or so. However, be aware that this waterfall (like every waterfall) has the potential to go from a tame flow to a raging torrent of water in a matter of minutes as soon as it starts to rain and the water begins to run off the mountains, in this case Mourne Catherine. This is a very big danger during the rainy season here. My group of 6 inexperienced hikers experienced this first hand on August 10th, 2013. It is also noted that cellular phone networks fail very quickly along this trail so it's a good idea for the inexperienced hiker to take a C.D.A. Tour Guide. If you plan to discover your own path then go into the one of the C.D.A. Police Posts located at Tembladora Bay and Williams Bay and let them know where you'd be going and when you should be expected back. This is a precautionary measure should they need to come look for you. In any case you should always have water safety gear ready as well as at least 20 feet of rope and machete in case you need to blaze a new trail along the river for a safer crossing. There is still a very small flow at the waterfall during the “dry season.” The falls is located at 10.72056°W & -61.62835°W.
