Itinerary description
This is a track linking the Alfoldi Kektura (Great Plains Blue Route) to the Hungarian-Serbian border at Djala. It can form part of the E4 Long Distance European Trail, linking the published routes along the Alfoldi Kektura with the route of the E4 through Serbia described by "Rambling through Serbia at a slow pace" published by the Serbian Mountaineering Association (Planinarski Savez Srbije). I walked this route in September 2017 without any problems (see johnpone4hungary.blogspot.com and johnpone4serbia.blogspot.com).
From Mindszent the track follows the eastern embankment of the Tisza river, passing Martely which has an attractive waterfront. It then crosses the river and follows a cycle track into Szeged, a town I stayed in which is well worth a visit. After Szeged the track continues down the Tisza river until it diverts to join a cycle path alongside a road that leads to the border with Serbia at Djala. I walked but the route can also be cycled with suitable bikes.
For my complete trek on the E4 across Europe read my book "Six Pairs of Boots: Spain to Cyprus on the E4 Trail" by John Pucknell available from Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com, the Bookdepository.com, lehmanns.de, bookspot.nl, and other good online bookstores.
