Signaling: From Berkovitsa to Cabaña Kom marked white and green, from the cabin to Kom peak in white and red
Marina's excellent treatment with us has prepared us a great breakfast, we have not been able to say goodbye to her, when we left she was not at home.
Today's stage was initially short but with a positive slope of 1,100 m. and I say in principle, because then it changed, but let's go to the beginning.
We leave the pleasant town of Berkovitsa following a narrow road, soon we see the white and green markings that go to the Kom cabin, in principle it follows the road, then it goes on a trail avoiding the curves. We see the border police in some areas, hidden and vigilant, we are again near the Serbian border, they greet us without the slightest problem, I think that since yesterday in Berkovitsa they had us controlled, and they knew where we came from and where come on.
Little by little we add meters to reach the Kom cabin, which is our destination in principle, but in just over three hours we have climbed to 1,544 m. The cabin is strategically located to climb the Kom peak, and here comes the extension of the stage, we settle in the cabin and with the minimum we are going to climb the Kom peak.
From the cabin the road goes up to another upper cabin, where a path that ascends in zigzag starts to overcome the tree line and reach the unarmed area, near the mountain range, when we get there we turn west and far we see the Kom. We headed towards him, crossed several mountaineers who have climbed to make the peak. Although it has no difficulty the last ramps weigh and when you reach the top next to the vertex that has a pair of Bulgarian flags there is a monument to Stalin with a vase of flowers on the ground, some countryman has a longing for a dark past.
It is necessary to descend through the same place where we have climbed up to the Cabaña Kom which is where we will spend the night, where we coincide with three mountaineers who climbed the peak while we were going down, a chat while we had dinner.
