Itinerary description
In the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson, this lovely walk through Kippenrait Glen SSSI can be shortened to 3 miles returning by train, or bus from Bridge of Allan. The Darn walk by the river is rougher than the old paved Glen Road but passes by the 'Stevenson Cave', an old mine adit. An information board is at the high bridge over the Wharryburn on Glen Road. RLS spent many happy times from childhood at Bridge of Allan Spa gathering inspiration from local history to develop his books. His grandfather helped with engineering the spa water from the old drift mines to the early Well pump house in the 1820s and designed the 'new' Stirling bridge in 1833.
