Itinerary description
We chose to do the route in the opposite direction to the conventional one. This stage is long, but otherwise easy. The first five km is an easy hike with a gentle slope, which becomes steeper as you approach the col (Heilig-Gest Jöchl). From this point, we enter Italian territory. The path continues from west to east with various ups and downs, passing by the Krimmler Tauern Hütte, which is a military building, used in the past for border control.
This stage has an alternative which passes through the Eisee (Icelake), and reaches this point through the Krimmler Tauern col.
From this point, in less than two hours, you reach the Birlückenhütte. The Italian name for the hut is Brigata Tridentina.
