Itinerary description
Very nice sweeping views down to the beach / cove. Overall, a really great hike. Upgraded rating from "Moderate" to "Difficult" per the group's apparent general consensus. Very steep, a bit technical, but not very long. Took about 3 hours, or perhaps a bit more as we stopped at the cove and several times to regroup.
Starts at the parking lot below Moinho Dom Quixote. Very short walk on the road, then gravel road, then a steeply descending rocky old washed out gravel road. Turns to single track as you approach the cove. There is a short section that almost requires using hands to get down. Rocky beach is very nice.
To get back, it goes up the way you came down, then branches to the left. It goes over one ridge, then almost back down to another cove, and from there climbs steeply up the face of the 2nd ridge. Goes through a pine grove. Then comes out onto a road that angles gradually up the ridge until you get to Dom Quixote.
In total, we have done this hike maybe 4-5 times
A few times in 2021
17-May-22 with Micki and Rod.
Also probably again in Sept/Oct 22 with the Wed club.
Again on 4-Jan-23 with Wed club.
It was a bit harder than I remembered. Very steep, rocky, and some sections required use of hands to keep steady. But not really rock climbing.
