Itinerary description
A great hike in a magnetic part of the mountain desert, with some unique view ponts.
We left the car to the side of the dirtroad to Pachnes at the point of Ammoutsera. From Ammoutsera we climbed to Dochi. There is no trail and the terrain is rough. Then we followed the ridgeline to Kakovoli. Kakovoli has a tremendous view of the three Sori and also to Psilorites and to the south Heraklion and Rethymno. Then we continued the ridgeline to reach Goniasmata. Hiking in this area requires caution as there numerous pits all over the place. As we started to get deep in the desert we decided to climb Askyfiotikos Soros. Another incredible view point, having view of the Mavri Lakki area, the peaks of the mountain desert and also view of Rethymno and Chania.
The terrain is rough, there is no trail and one must be careful of the pits.
