Djouce 08Aug11

I did this hike with the DAARA group lead by Tony. He arranged a hired bus to take us to the starting point at 475m meters above sea level and 250 meters from the top of Djouce. The morning was promising from a weather point of view, although we could see a cap of fog on the mountain top. Our first stop was to see the lakes Tay and Dan. We then walked part of the Wicklow Way along a pathway made of railway sleepers to protect the vegetation. So far so good. We deviated from the Wicklow Way, and started our final ascent to the top of Djouce through the now the wet fog. At the top, 725m, we could see nothing, except for the few occasions that the fog lifted. The decent is a nice easy pathway down to the Dargle River, where thankfully the fog lifted and the sun came out. Then there is a tough climb, followed by a lovely pathway with views of Powerscourt and its magnificent waterfall. We passed Crone Woods along the foothills of Maulin Mountain. Then we reached the bridge over the Glencree River, and a big climb up steps set into the woodlands, until we reached the Knockree Youth Hostel. From here we took the road to the Bus Stop for our trip back to Dublin. A lovely walk, but it would have been nicer without the dense wet fog. There are some lovely walks in this area and the Knockree Youth Hostel would be a great starting point.
He hecho esta ruta con DAARA y nuestro amigo y guia Tony. El había organizado un autobús para llevarnos a un punto 475m por encima del nivel de mar y unos 250m por debajo de la cima de Djouce, que era nuestro objetivo. La mañana ha amanecido prometedora, pero divisamos un sombrero de niebla encima de Djouce. Nuestra primera parada fue un punto con vistas de los lagos de Tay y Dan. Desde ahí caminamos parte fácil del Camino de Wicklow hecho de traviesas de ferrocarril para proteger la vegetación y flora del tremedal. Hasta aquí bien. Desviamos del Wicklow Way para empezar nuestra subida a la cima de Djouce de 725m, por la niebla densa y mojada. Encima no podíamos ver nada, excepto paro unos segundos cuando se levantó la niebla. Bajadamos por un camino bonita y fácil, hasta llegar al Río Dargle. Desde ahí una subida fuerte, seguido por un camino precioso y fácil con vistas espectaculares de Djouce y Powerscourt y su magnifica cascada. Pasamos el Bosque de Crone y por la falda de la montaña de Maulin. Pasamos por el puente sobre el río de Glencree, y una subida fuerte por una escalera creado dentro del bosque, hasta legar al Hostal de Knockree, desde donde anduvimos por la carretera hasta legar a la parada para coger el autobús público para volver a Dublin. Ha sido un senderismo preciosos, pero hubiera sido mejor sin tener que pasar tres horas en la niebla densa y mojada. Hay muchas rutas muy bonitas en esta zona, y el Hostal de Knockree sería una base perfecta de donde explorarlas.
