Itinerary description
Disert, County Cork, Ireland (Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
This was a wet windy day hike. You can easily drive closer to the peak but I decided to hike from Castletown where I had parked my campervan to get a decent hike out of it. Simply head out of town south on the R572 and follow my gpx trail left onto side roads. Eventually you will turn up right on an a farm/access road. I followed this up to a farm and went through a gate on the right where a footpath was marked on the map. This trail zig zags all the way up the hill for about a km. To get to the high point turn off left off the trail at the crest of the trail and follow your gps device and head for the visual HP. There’s no marker/cairn and no view as such either on a muggy day like I had. About face and return to the pub and Guinness. On a fine day the views should be splendid!
All in all a 10.5km home in 2hrs 11min with 341m height gain.
