First day of trekking to climb Kilimanjaro. In our case, we arrived in Tanzania the day before at 23:00 and we had to get up at 6:00, so we were a little tired (although the illusion made up for the lack of sleep).
We were staying in the city of Moshi. From there to the door of the National Park (Machame Gate) it takes an hour or so. At the point of entry "you sign" and the procedures are too long since there you meet with the porters who will accompany you the next days.
We started walking around 12:00. It is a stage in which a good unevenness is saved but at least it does not have the difficulty of lack of oxygen. Even so, it is essential to go slowly so as not to waste your energy and not expose your body to future physical illnesses.
The trail of this day is spectacular as it crosses a rainforest of humid climate. In fact, we stopped a downpour for a couple of hours (which fortunately was the only rain we suffered throughout the trek). Shortly after stopping the rain, we dried off due to the heat that it made at that low altitude.
During this day you also begin to know the characteristics of the treking ... for example, you will have to get used to not going alone, since you are constantly being ported (both yours and those of other hikers).
The arrival at the Machame Hut camp impressed me because of the bad smell caused by its dozens of latrines (luckily this impression I only had in this first camp). The camp, being in the middle of a forest makes it very intimate, that is, they form a group of three or four stores protected by trees. Upon arrival at the camp we will have to sign so that the rangers (National Park guards) have proof that you have not stayed by the way. This will be done in all the trekking camps.
Another thing that surprises is that when you arrive at the camp, the porters had our tent mounted and with the backpacks inside (this will be done every day of the trek). The dinner was made in the open and enjoying the moment. That night we slept like dormice ... from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (we had no sleep). We went to bed happy because we liked the first day.
