Day 9
Trekking carried out in October - November 2019 with Javier Aznar and our guide Janga.
Today is the third key day for acclimatization. After having climbed the Gokyo Ri and the Cho-La Pass Today it is the Kala Phattar of 5,648m high.
It is a 13km journey with more than 1,100m D +, one of the hardest of the trek. We will check if the body has gotten used to the altrua facing the ascent of Lobuche Peak.
The day rises cloudy. We hope we can see Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and that it does not happen to us like in Gokio Ri.
We left early in the morning heading north following the path on foot of the lateral moraine.
This is about 100m high.
It must be confessed that at 5,000m all movement becomes heavier. We climbed the moraine and crossed the Khumbu glacier between blocks of rock to reach Gorashep.
To the right we see the hanging glacier of Nuptse. The top of Everest is still hidden behind the smaller mountains.
Gorashep at 5180m is not a village. It is the grouping of 4 Lodges formed as the last camp before attempting to ascend Everest.
From here we will cross a small plain and begin the ascent to Kala Patthar.
Here it looks like a mound in the middle of all these peaks. The trace is obvious but to climb the 500m of unevenness to the top we spend a couple of hours.
Little by little the clouds are opening and we can contemplate the Cima surrounded by its halo of clouds.
Janga accompanies us like every day. For the climb it does not represent an extra effort and as always he is joking.
The return consists of undoing the road.
