Itinerary description
Do not attempt this trail without a guide unless you are an experienced hiker. There have been lot of landslides during monsoon of 2021 and trail has disappeared in handful of places. Secondly, there are two risky sections of traverses where the path is narrow, slippery due to murum, and deep and steep valley on one side. We couldn’t have done without our guide Ravi More from Dhawale.
It is a tough trek. You need to be very fit to climb for 7-8 hours with elevation gain of some over 1000m (Sinhgad is about 500m)
Moving time above is wrong. We needed 7 hours clock time and six hours of moving time. Two main halts, one for breakfast, and second at ghumati, and small water breaks or tired-breaks along the way.
We started at 6:30am. The route from the base village around Chandrgad is relatively easy one. But as you pass Chandragad and go deeper into that valley, it gets very steep. Then at the col, there is a traverse (adawa). Then again some climb, then again adawa. There you reach Ghumati in about 5hours. Chandragad that looked so imposing at the base looks so puny from here.
Take a breather at Ghumati, some food. There is a taka nearby with clean chilled water yearlong.
From Ghumati, you have about 20min climb to the ridge, and then easy walk along the ridge to the base of Arthur seat. Nice views of Savitri valley on the other side. Small rock patch at the end (20-30ft) can be handled easily while tourists from above are wondering where those people came from. And then you are at the destination.
I refered to the trails on wikiloc by arun.kumbhar and Prashant Salian for my homework, and also communicated with Ajinkya Gadgil.
