Itinerary description
Fall 2009
*Note: the tracks begin at the lake and end at the trailhead.*
Turn off HWY 199 at waypoint marked LITTLE_JONES_CREEK_RD and follow the paved single lane road toward Bear Basin Lookout. Go past the gated road to the lookout to waypoint TRAILHEAD and park. There is one nice campsite with a picnic table at the trailhead.
The trail is in the wilderness so no bikes allowed.
The first .6 miles of the hike are on an abandoned road, then the trail rolls along passing an intersection to Buck Lake. Make a sharp right at INTERSECTION and the trail begins to climb steeply, then levels as you approach a small tarn. The trail here is not obvious at times, keep an eye open for balanced rocks showing the way. The shore has a few spots to put a tent, so if there's more than one party at the lake you won't have a lot of privacy.
