Itinerary description
I heard about this hike from a few people who have done it. I finally got my chance on a trip to Blue Ridge. Getting to the trail head is a bit technical due to a lot of numbered roads, but my gps did fine. There's a small parking area at the trail head which will fit about 5-6 vehicles. On the morning that I went, we got there at about 8am and there was nobody there. The hike is two miles to the top of the rocks, and it's a total of about 1300 feet gain. It breaks down to 1.5 miles of trail and about 700 feet to the rocks. Then the rocks are about half a mile with 600 feet of gain. The rocks look ominous, but it's mostly class 3 scrambling with a some occasions where you might need some technique. The most import skill you'll need is route finding. This is one of those places where you could climb these rocks 50 times and not have the same route. For that reason, I'd go again and again.
