Derrynane Loop:
Pleasant walk of 3.30 hours through the historic national park of Derrynane, where the childhood home of Daniel O'Connell, the Liberator of Ireland, is located, a building that can be visited from the 19th century in the vicinity of the beautiful beach of Derrynane Harbor (bay ).
Although in my case the point of departure and final was the house where we were staying, you can start the route in the town of Caherdaniel.
The itinerary is part of the Kerry Way (the Kerry Way) that meanders along the entire Iveragh Peninsula, so it is conveniently marked. The coastal route that wanders through beautiful white sand beaches, bays and the odd stone cove is a variant of the Kerry Way, called Derrynane Mass Path: a joy to behold.
In my case, the Derrynane Mass Path (the path that borders the shore) was the first part of the route, to reach the town of Caherdaniel and from there return to the starting point for the 'traditional' Kerry Way. The Kerry Way goes inland, leaving the coast, and gaining some elevation: 150-200 meters above sea level. In its final part, it goes through a beautiful forest, with river and a small waterfall, before returning to the open sky, from where you can enjoy the wonderful views of bays, islets (Lamb's and Abbey islands) and peninsulas (Lamb's Head) with those who started the march.
For those who want to deviate for five minutes, on Abbey Island (on the west side of Derrynane Harbor) there is a marine cemetery and the remains of an abbey.
