Itinerary description

Destination: Delicate arches - Arches National park
Difficulty: 2B-III
Route: Delicate arches route at Wolfe ranch parking.

PREREQUISITES FOR ANY ROUTE OF ANY DIFFICULTY:
Have wikiloc downloaded and know how to use said application. Consider that wikiloc is only a support tool and that you also have to have a good sense of direction on the hill. Always carry more water than indicated for emergency situations. Having extra water can save the life of someone who is dehydrated on the same trail as you. It can also be used in cases of having to stay longer than expected in the mountains.

Just like water we must always have extra food. This includes sweet and salty snacks and some hydrating fruit.

Always share your plans with someone who will not be attending your tour. Let know the departure time, estimated duration of the tour and location of the sidewalk.

If you happen to suffer any type of accident, do not hesitate to call the authorities immediately. For mountain rescues of all kinds, dial 911 and contact Civil Protection.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR THIS ROUTE:

HOW TO ARRIVE: Drive towards arches National park, until you find a guard hut to the area. Once there, you will need to show the guard your ticket (which needs to be reserved beforehand, as soon as possible). After that, the guard will hand you a map of the area. To reach delicate arches, make your way to the stop called “Wolfe ranch”, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from the guard hut. Here is the parking for your vehicle, and where the hike begins.

VEHICLE TYPE: Any vehicle can pass through, as it is a paved road

PARKING: Park at “Wolfe ranch”. You will receive a map at the guard hut, but there are also signals throughout the way that will guide you there.

COSTS: 30 dollars per vehicle, 25 dollars per motorcycle, or 15 dollars per individual without a vehicle. Requires buying your tickets beforehand, at least a few days before your visit.

WHERE AM I?: At Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.

PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY: This route has a physical difficulty level 2. This is due to the elevation gain of 225 meters.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY: This route has a technical difficulty grade B. This is due to a part of the hike that is a bit steep, and also do the last narrow part of the hike, that can get dangerous in specific weather (rain, snow, ice, etc…)

SOLAR EXPOSURE: This route has a solar exposure grade III. There is little shade throughout the hike, and it is highly exposed to the sun.

ROUTE TRACE: The route has many signals since the beginning, and it is easy to follow. Most parts are wide, yet at the end there is a narrow part, which can be slippery when wet.

SPECIFIC REVIEW OF THE ROUTE:

Summary:
The route starts off at the Wolfe ranch parking in Arches National Park, located at Moab, Utah. The hike will begin next to some restrooms, and there will be a sign indicating the start of the route. You begin the hike crossing a bridge, with a few intersections leading to another hike, so remember to read the signs or follow the wiki loc when reaching an intersection. The route starts off as more of a walk, with little elevation gain. After awhile walking, you will reach an area which is much more inclined, and extremely wide. This isn’t a specific path, as people are walking on all parts of the area. After reaching the top, there will be a sign indicating which way to continue the route, and the route will convert into a normal path again. After following this path awhile, you will reach a narrow path with a steep drop off. This is the final part of the hike, and it is really short, although it is important to be careful when crossing it. Finally, you will reach the end of the hike, and you will emerge into an area with a amazing view, a massive crater like mountain hole in the center, and an arch in the left hand side, which is the star of the hike.

Warnings:
Strong winds and cold at the top.
Remember to buy your tickets beforehand, at least a few days before your visit.
Ice cramps in winter.
Really hot and exposed to the sun in summer.
