Itinerary description

Deanna Marcum played a pivotal role in my life. Together with Rick Luce, she laid the groundwork for my move from Belgium to the USA in pursuit of new professional opportunities. She actively supported my work during my early days there. The move also resulted in an abundance of wonderful new personal experiences and a life changing event. I am eternally grateful for it all.

I learned about Deanna’s passing from Rick who sent me a link (https://sr.ithaka.org/blog/remembering-deanna-marcum/ , archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20220829073623/https://sr.ithaka.org/blog/remembering-deanna-marcum/) to a page where staff of Ithaka S+R remember her. I decided to think about what she has meant for me during a hike in the mountains in Austria where I now spend a lot of my time. It turned into the longest hike I’ve taken here, so far, initially walking under a gentle sun, then under a threatening cloud cover, and eventually in drizzling rain, Summer slowly turning into Fall as the kilometers (or should I say miles?) went by. Thank you so much for the way you have touched me, Deanna!
