Itinerary description
Full-day trek climbing a series of glacial valleys from a trail-head below mt. Blanc, to the IT/FR border pass. The trail is a portion of the Grand Tour du Mont Blanc. Beautiful and dramatic high peaks and glaciers on the north. Beautiful vistas down the valley after reaching the Italian Alpine Club Refuge half-way up. There's potable water near the refuge. There's approx 1 mile of winding asphalt road at the beginning until breaking through the tree line. There was hard packed snow until 2K meters altitude when we did the trail in mid June 2012. Not technically difficult - but somewhat strenuous on knees/legs during long steep descent.
