Itinerary description
A nice day trip in Ein Akev and ovdat - best in the winter time (December -april).
You need to start early as the day is short and you need to leave the reservation before night time. in order to do so you can drive to midreahet Ben gurion early, or sleep at the start of the trail (there's a night parking space there)
You start at a nice climb on the red marked path (ma'ale davsha), and walk on the desert plateau for a couple of hours. At some point there's a beduin tent there - it's a bit of a tourist trap, but you can stop there for coffee and some food.
After the tent you go down and cross a small wadi, and keep walking past a cool cliff, until you begin descending to lower Ein Akev spring. It's beautiful and frozen! Drinkable if you have some purifying pills. Then you go up the wide Akev wadi (there's a nice sign) until you reach upper Ein Akev - there shouldn't be much water there (if at all).
You end the trail by climbing up to Ovdat - an ancient Nabati-byzantine city. Walk around and explore!
After climbing down back to the road you can get a bus to See boker, where you started, or to Be'er Sheva.
