Itinerary description
Day 4/5 Mini Traverse in the Drakensberg, guiding by Gustav Greffrath:
After having a bit of a sleep in and taking time to make a hearthy breakfast, we made our way up (again!) for our final views of the escarpment. Luckily the climb was soft and short and the views well worth it. Rain was menacing, but nonetheless, we started going down the steep pass that would bring us back home. We made extensive use of our walking poles as the slopes were slippery and abrupt. Luckily the sun shone throughout the day and took away the mist. By lunchtime we had a feast by the river bed of the pass and by mid afternoon we reached a beautiful campsite, just in time to take a bath in a nearby waterhole. Be precautious as bad weather can find you quickly! In our case, we had just enough time to set up camp before the rain, wind, thunder and lighting came over us again! Luckily it only lasted a couple of hours and we were able to have a final Mexican fiesta dinner under the stars.
