Itinerary description
Second day plus the morning of day three to get back to the car. Started the day by hike up (sometimes on all four) to Morro dos Castelos, which took around 2hr hiking slowly. The way up is steep but beautiful and in the shade. In our case it was just cloudy and humid.
With luck you see some wildlife like us and there is some water to refill your bottle. We did not filter any of the water as it was a) high in altitude b) no animals, ie. cows/horses.
At the top you encounter a wide cave which you have to cross. Important to have a torch light or use your phone, other than that it's quite short and wide. To exit some climbing and important to remember for the way down. After the cave 10 more minutes to reach the viewpoint (on top of a large boulder).
After half hour we headed down, this time taking us only one hour. We picked up our bags at the house of Sr. Agnaldo, where we had left the bigger backpack, and headed on a long and sweaty ascent to the plateau we climbed on the first day. We found a great spot under the threes to set up camp, so we left again our bags, and made our way to Cachoeirão. Unfortunately due to the weather we had to give up 2km from it and returned to set up the camp before it started raining.
Final day took us 3 hours to go back to the car. We made a mistake by the Pati Viewpoint by taking the path to the alternative parking lot (more south of Guiné), so we crossed through the bush to find the other path (not a good idea). Found the bridge to cross Rio Preto and made our way back down to the Parking Lot.
