Itinerary description
This is a combination of official and unofficial trails in and around beautiful village of Kakopetria.
We started from unofficial part going towards famous church of Ag. Nikolaos tis Stegis of XI cent., then passing on its side and up to the hills following partially some nature trail along Karkotis river.
On the way we saw a fish farm and EOKA hideout. Beautiful views from the top on the Morfou bay.
Then descent back to the village straight into its oldest part with narrow streets and traditional houses. At the end of the old part of the village Vateri trail starts and then extends into geological trail which finished at our starting point.
TERRAIN: mostly dirt-gravel and paved roads with some narrow forest paths (official trails). Ascent in the beginning then long descent with minor ascent at the very end.
SEASON: the overall trail is shady for about 40%. Official trails are shady for 80% but they are short. Official trails may become quite muddy after the rains with some additional streams to cross.
SIGNS: no signs on extension, a lot on the official trails, same with the resting places. There is one on extension though.
KIDS: the overall trail is Ok for kids starting 8-10 yo minding the elevation and distance.
