Itinerary description

This gentle rural hike is along the Cowichan Valley Trail (CVT) from Mayo Lake Park to the trailhead of Fisherman’s Trail. The trail is very fl_____at and although not spectacular in terms of scenery it does provide some nice views of the valley mountains. The trail passes through some wetland areas with good birding opportunities. Beaver are also known to inhabit the wetlands.

The CVT trail is along a portion of the abandoned E&N Railway which once connected Lake Cowichan with Duncan.

There is a picnic area with toilets at Mayo Lake.

You could proceed along the trail past the termination point of this hike to the Town Of Lake Cowichan (approx. 7 km). Or, at the junction with Fisherman's trail follow it down to the Cowichan River (approx. 1 km)

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 1A.
