Itinerary description
A visit to Pico Ruivo from the valley of Curral das Freiras.
Although recorded as one way, I returned the same way, making it a full day hike of about 8,5 hours.
The route follows part of the following trails: Curral das Freiras - Lombo do Urzal, and Encumeada - Pico Ruivo.
Out of the valley towards the mountain ridge is quite steep through eucalyptus forest. Also the final climb to Pico Ruivo is quite steep.
At the top you can enjoy spectacular scenery all around (if the weather is clear). It can be very windy and cold at the summit, so be prepared.
