Itinerary description
This is a one way trail from village Curral das Freinas to Ilha via Pico Ruivo.
The hike ia starting nice on path/ road. But soon changing to quite steep single track trail which is not easy to follow. And dangerous at some crossings(!) where stones are wet under the small waterfalls. The give away is that wr haven’t met anyone during first 5hours of the hike, first people signs were when we became closer to Pico Ruivo-which was in cloud when we got there, so no views. Therefore I would suggest to anyone who decide to follow this trail to start early in the morning as first few kilometres are on the road can be hiked even during the dark, to reach summit of Pico Ruivo before the clouds set in.
Descent from Pico Ruivo to Ilha is vía recognised trail and pretty straightforward with good navigation signs and good condition of paths.
Beware that in Ilha there is nothing open for evening meal.
We took a taxi to close by village for a dinner.
