Itinerary description

D26. Kilkenny, Laois & Tipperary Marilyns, Eire: Rossmore Hill 336m (Laois), Cullenagh Mountain 317m (Laois), Knockmannon Hill 313m (Kilkenny), Killoshulan 349m (Kilkenny) and Knockamuck 205m (Tipperary).

On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers.

A long day of driving around three counties hiking the last five Marilyns East of the M7 & M8.

Cullenagh Mountain 317m, S of Portlaoise, Laois, Eire (Marilyn).
The start point was at the end of a back road just NE of Ballyroan on gravel area outside a residential house. Simply follow the gravel road to the forest entrance and follow the track around in a big loop until you get to a cross roads and then turn right. Keep going until you reach the end of the forest track. Then there will be an obvious single track footpath leading into the trees. Follow this until you get to the trig point. There are no views due to being a forested hilltop but it is a decent walk.

Parking: Gravel area outside a house. Room for 2/3 cars.
Route: Gravel road, forest track and single track footpath. Nice hidden trig point in a forest. No views.
Statistics: 6.7km with 121m of ascent done in 1hr 15min.
Maps: Outdoor Active Irish Topo Maps.
