Itinerary description
Crvena greda (Red Cliff) is a classic hike in Durmitor and a great viewpoint on the main part of the massif. You can also combine it with visit to the Jablan lake, which is almost on the way.
The trail is well-marked, apart from the first part, which is more-less logical. The point at which I finished the hike (and where the most people finish it too) is not the highest, but it is a natural and nice viewpoint on the main part of the massif. Going up further to the highest point is unnecessary (I know because I've been to it earlier).
I did it solo, on early winter day, which was possible due to unusually warm weather for that part of year. There was very little snow on the trail, but ice was tricky at some points, especially on descent and especially because I had no crampons or axe.
Length in both directions was just above 8km, and total elevation gain just below 500m.
