Itinerary description
The second day of our cross-Judea hike towards the Dead Sea started in the small settlement of Sde Boaz, where we lodged at the lovely "Ruth Home".
From Sde Boaz we made our way towards Efrat, passing the remains of the ancient Hasmonean aqueduct, as well as the remains of the Byzantine Deir el-Banat Monastery. The next leg of our journey led us through several Palestinian villages.
In the vicinity of the Herodion National Park we saw the landscape slowly change into a more barren one, as we neared the Judean Desert. We passed the area of Tekoa and hiked along the huge, magnificent canyon of Nahal Tekoa, which was dotted with ancient Hermit-dwellings in the area above the Haritoun Cave.
In the early evening we arrived at the settlement of Tekoa Dalet, where we spent the night at the spartan "Sfar HaMidbar Farm".
On this day, we hiked about 18 km (11 mi) in about eight hours, including lengthy breaks and hikes through partly pretty rough terrain.
