Itinerary description

9/5/21- Drove up the Caribou Pond Rd (CVR) off ME27/16 across from the Transfer Station. Road in excellent shape - a few rocks protruding, easy to avoid. One bridge a tad sketchy - just stay on the left (right on return) and no worries. Many vehicles there as it was start of Labor Day Weekend. Short walk after the gate to the AT and from there up to spur trail to S. Crocker. Continued on to Crocker and returned to South Crocker. The trail over to Reddington is very obvious - just below the summit cairn it veers to the right. The trail itself is very easy to follow - it's flagged with different color tape, and occasionally yellow paint on trees which are the boundary property line marker. This boundary line is actually part of the trail for a short distance, but then it is rather obviously blocked with logs and the trail itself turns left. If you look over the logs you can see this cut drops down into the valley and up the next mountain beyond. Occasionally the footbed gets obscured by new growth, but look carefully (feel with your feet) and watch for tape flagging. Shortly after the col it opens up and crosses an old logging cut, and then encounters an old road and turns uphill. Follow this a short distance and then turn to the right, back into the woods - again, well-flagged. From the summit (still somewhat open after test windmill of several years ago) return downhill a few hundred feet, and watch for the fork to the right - all well-flagged. We wore protective safety glasses during the moderate bushwhack. About 1 mile from the summit we intersected the road coming up from Caribou Pond, but couldn't find the down route back into the woods, so simply followed the road down - rather quick end to the day. We did find the bottom of this down route a bit later - it begins at mile marker 6. Great day, great weather, great companion.
