Itinerary description
In this hike we have panoramic views of Glencar valley, Sligo bay, lough Gill, Knocnarrea.
To get to the start point drive on the N16 road and take the L7416 signposted "Kilsellagh" drive for 2-3 Km and park near a gate/ small area for 4-5 cars on the left hsnd side as you drive. From here walk along this lane to initiate gentle altitude gain. In this case we go around the eastern side of Crockauns mountain. The terrain is grassy and we will cross a wire fence to continue gaining altitude. Behind us we have nice views of Keelogyboy mountain (428m). We continue our hike north west direction to reach the highest point of our hike today (457m) with magnificent views of surrounding mountain range opposite us Glencarbury, the Devil's chimney, Glencar Lough and valley. We continue Eastern direction our way back and visit an old stone house near a stream probably built before the Irish famine time. It is just located at the end of the lane that we used to access by car. It is worth while visiting this derelict house. This walk has no technical difficulties. We have crossed wire fences in a few occasions but they are easy to cross. The area is within a few minutes drive from Sligo town in the West of Ireland.
