Itinerary description
Crockalough, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland (Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
Parking for this route was outside a small factory on a public road. It was a Sunday so there was no problem. This is a simple hike so basically just follow my gpx track out of Bree village and turn left towards the obvious big hill with the big golf ball on top of it! This is a rough vehicle track and you turn off as per my track just before the summit before the lake (which I never saw!). There is an obvious track here too.
The Radar Station is enclosed by a fence. Walk alongside and behind it and you’ll find the trig point. Great views here. To get home head downhill NW across country towards an obvious large factory. No trails to speak of for the next km. You then hit a track that takes you to the road which is easy to follow back to the start point.
A 8km bimble with 263m of ascent done in a 1hr 48min.
