Itinerary description

Croagh Patrick, Westport, Ireland (Hewitt, Marilyn and 600m+ peak).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
Well this mountain is Ireland’s holy mountain, busy and very beautiful. Hugging the coast it and its satellites tower over stunning Clew Bay and its islands.Parking for me with my motor home was roadside on the main coast road. If you have a car there is ample parking at Murrisk car park along with cafes and toilets. I would imagine in the summer months it would be busy weekdays and weekends. There are height barriers of 1.9m. Anyway head directly south along a path that runs along the car park. The track is wide and rocky all the way to the summit. You will get to a pass at 400m and the track continues SW and winds itself steeply uphill. Poles would be a good idea and warm clothing this time of year (Nov). This mountain is far busier in comparison to other Irish mountains by far. It is also the only trail I’ve not worn gaiters as it is rocky all the way to the top. At the summit area is a building...a cafe maybe? It was closed anyhow. There is also a cairn but better still glorious glorious views...everywhere. I made the summit in 1.5hrs with no sit down breaks. Afterwards simply retrace your route.
All in all 8.2kms in 3hrs 5mins with 820m of ascent. A cold and windy climb but simply stunning.
