Itinerary description
This is a steep uphill climb through beautiful pine forest before eventually reaching the Divcibare plains. The Crna Reka (Black River) canyon area is protected and reportedly one of the cleanest rivers in Serbia - it certainly looks pristine. You should feel completely alone in nature, without seeing another soul until you reach the Mali Golubac peak and outskirts of Divcibare.
This hike I have marked as difficult - you don't need any particular skills or equipment, but you do need to be fit enough to handle the steep ascent. It's not more of an altitude gain than many other hikes in Serbia, just a steeper gradient.
The trail is narrow but well-marked and we used the version of this hike in the book 'Hiking and Biking in Serbia' by Katherina Haberli Harker as our reference point, although we changed it a little bit. In retrospect, we should have followed the signs near the end all the way to the Golubac peak, as we may have missed a great view ...
You can finish with a beer or something to eat - as well as a great sense of accomplishment - in Divcibare at the end!
And if you go as we did, during snow melt (or after rain) be prepared for mud :)

Go down this track here
The farmhouse you see is the Obradovic farm which is involved in eco tourism - you can stay here, get instructions for the hike from them - and I am sure they have some homemade produce to try/buy too. The telephone number of Obradovic family is +3811143555114 and +381644485605.

Go right - and watch out for the next turn - it is very soon (if you reach the river you've gone too far)
We missed it and almost made it to the next stream before realising our mistake - don't follow our mistake by going too far!

Go up here! This is the start of the ascent
The trail is well marked from here on - just keep an eye on the markings on the trees
