Itinerary description

A scenic hike on the Cowichan River FootPath alongside the Cowichan River. Starting at Skutz Falls you will be hiking downriver to Horseshoe Bend. You will be at river level, passing through a ferny, mixed maple & fir forest.

In late spring, the time of this recording, wildflowers are in abundance along the trail. In summer, the trail offers a cool respite from the heat and there is swimming near the trailhead. In the fall, the maples turn golden. In the winter, some sections of the trail may be flooded but if you can make it to Horseshoe Bend you may find white water kayakers playing in the swift waters there.

There is plenty of parking at the trailhead. Pit toilets are available at Horseshoe Bend

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 1A.
