Itinerary description
The first half of the trail follows along a 4-wheeler trail. After reaching the beaver ponds there's no set trail. I've made several trips out to crater lake, and I found this one to involve the least amount of brush, however, it does involve two more creek crossings. The valley has a healthy population of moose, and if you walk along the bushy area you can usually find a place where one has made a path.
The most difficult part is usually crossing the beaver pond at mile 4, it depends on the year sometimes it is better to go above or below it, make your own judgment, but try to get back on the route after crossing it.
