Itinerary description
A classical hike in Santo Antao. An astonishing descent of 750 m in just over two hours. Not specially difficult, but can overcharge your knees. Bring some water and solar protection. You must arrange a drop off at the crater, since alugeres are not allowed on this route. From the wooden stall by the road, walk round the crater by either side. Enjoy the Mediterranean landscape with pine trees and abandoned vineyards. The pass towards the Paul Valley is at the foot of the mountain in front. Gorgeous views over the valley, down to the sea. Then, and incredibly cobbled, winding path. Towards the bottom of the valley you will find tropical cultures, like sugarcane or coffee. You will then meet the wider, also cobbled, driveable road in Cha de Fazenda. Chez Sandro is a convenient place to drink a beer and have a snack. If you don't wish to walk any further, the alugers to Paúl also stop there.

We did this with bad weather conditions. Nothing to see because of the clouds so very disappointing. It should be fantastic but you need sun 🙂
