Itinerary description
The ascent to Cotopaxi is done in private tour because you have to go with a guide.
The first day they take you by 4x4 to the start of the trek which is at 4600 meters altitude. From there begins a one hour hike to the refuge. In the afternoon you will practice climbing on the glacier to learn how to use the equipment and know some rules for the next day.
The second day the ascent begins at 1 am because the snow is harder and it is safer. The ascent can take about 7 hours because of the slopes with up to 45 degrees of inclination and the descent takes about 3 hours to reach the refuge.
