I did this trail as part of my hike from Filiatra to Methoni in 2011 or 2012. At the time they were still building the Costa Navarino Resort, so the beach was open for people to walk through. Now, with the hotel resort I don't know.
I can assure you the beach is still open (even though you'll have to go around Costa Navarino to access it).
