Itinerary description
This a great hike to a peak near the Nevada border. After parking, hike across and slightly up a long, sloping drainage, looking for a round boulder about 10' tall near the entrance to a small ravine/canyon. There should be a visible footpath into this ravine, and the occasional cairn/duck. Watch for the trail to climb out of the canyon on the left.
The total mileage of this hike is 8 miles, with 3,500' elevation gain (and loss...).

The trailhead for Corkscrew is just below this sign as you driving up a slight grade toward Beatty, NV. Be sure to put your vehicle downhill (direction of traffic) as you may be ticketed by the NP police otherwise. Look for a footpath slightly uphill from these vehicles which will bring you to the top of the bank, and will have a clear view of the broad wash. https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/corkscrew-peak-death-valley-ca-1433151/photo-476322
As you're hiking up the broad wash, watch for the "black canyon" on the left, after about a mile. Notice the 10' round boulder on the left. Hike into this small canyon/ravine about .25 miles, and you'll see where the trail turns left, and climbs out of the ravine. https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/corkscrew-peak-death-valley-ca-1433151/photo-476321
The plant is Arctemecon merriami, one of the bearpaw poppies. It will have white flowers on stalks 8-12 inches high, it grows in only a few places in CA.
