Itinerary description

A beautiful track going from Copacabana in the North of Medellin to the Avri Parque were the Metro cable coming from the Valley ends. I took the Metro and the Bus to Copacabana. I started close to the Parque Principal on Calle 50 and Carrera 50. Make sure to bring something to protect you from the sun, because during the trail there is no shade at all. From the park find the way to the Cruz by using Calle 48. Just before the end of Calle 48 a wall was built to prevent you to continue the road what was confusing me and left me standing there. After a small talk to a local he told me to go through a sliding fence that looks like an entry to a school. From here you can continue the trail up. It’s a long and steep walk going up on a paved road until you reach the lookout platform. Follow the road to the left and you get to the Cerro de la Cruz. Here you can get your last proviants before you continue. From here it’s a bit confusing but you have to get on the trail just behind/left from the market stables. From here just follow the trail and enjoy the most beautiful views. The next point of attention is there were you find the dog training center. The trail disappeared here completely making it difficult to pass, once you made it you find a road going to the left and the right (down and up). Both of them are the wrong direction. You have to find a trail just in front of you with a barbed fence that is a little bit hidden on the hill. Open the fence and continue the trail up. After a while you get to the next point that changed the trail for a bit and made me go the wrong direction. In this area they started to construction area making the trail disappear. When you get to this point don’t go down following the new road. Try to continue going up because that’s where the trail is going. If you go down there is almost no way to find the trail back again. Once you have overcome these hurdles it’s getting pretty easy to follow the trail till the end. I took the Metro cable back into the city again making it a nice loop. I would recommend this trail to those who aren’t afraid of heights and have some experience in hiking. Bring enough water and food.

I had the same issue. At the point where I encountered the barbed fence I was warned by some workers at the finca in front of it that they may be some dogs protecting the area, so I ended up taking the paved road to the right to Piedras Blancas and further to Arví. Great hike though, but indeed not for the novice or the faint hearted, as there are deep cliffs on either side during a very narrow and rocky climb.
