Itinerary description
This first section of the Cooloola Wilderness Trail starts 200m before the Elanda Pt Eco Resort, 30km north of Noosa Heads. Its an 11km walk through flat coastal swampland so ensure you have insect repellent during the warmer months. After 3km you can take an side trail to Kinaba Information Centre which will add a further 6km to your walk. Kinaba is perched above the edge of Lake Cootharaba and is a great spot to sit and watch the abundant birdlife. Once back on the trail, you arrive at Kin Kin Creek where the walkers bridge has been washed away years ago. If your keen to do this hike, you will have to swim 30m across to the northern side of the creek. From there, its another 5km walk to Figtree Point. The camp grounds here are well set out with a picnic area and boat jetty for day use visitors. Check out our Facebook Hiking site "Take A Hike- Qld" for more information.
