Itinerary description

Cooloola from Rainbow Beach. Continuation of trail from Day 3 onwards (see Days 1 & 2 saved as separate walk). Navigation tips below.

DUTGEE WALKERS CAMP:
(1) When arriving at the Dutgee tank/toilet from the North, there are well-sheltered campsites in the thick scrub to the right of the trail. However, there are more attractive campsites on the bank of Noosa River about 50-100m further along the main trail (the official map is a bit vague about these).
(2) I saw no trail marker at the Southern exit from the Dutgee riverbank camping area. The main trail is to the immediate right of the 4WD service track (it looked like an access path to another campsite). There was a large group of campers drying wet gear in this area so possibly there was a sign that was covered.

COOLOOLA SANDPATCH:
This is a large exposed area and it would be very unpleasant to get lost here on a warm day. I intended to use the visual navigation aids described in the official map (rather than GPS) but in the middle of the day I could not make out any navigation markers (and the curvature of the dunes makes it near impossible to recognise topographical features). There were too many footprints heading in all directions to rely on these. Eventually, I followed the compass bearing shown on the map and that got me close enough to the Southern end of the crossing to be able to see footprints leading to the trail. If all foot prints had been erased, I probably could not have located the trail without GPS.

EXIT FROM TEEWAH BEACH:
This was a complete fiasco. If there is any signage, then it was not visible from the beach at sand level. I walked an additional 2+ km off the route. Recommend using GPS for this.

Trail conditions are otherwise generally "easy" but I have rated it overall as "moderate" due to pack weight for 5 days.

TRAILHEAD TO NOOSA:
Public buses are available on the Southern side of the Tewantin ferry. I decided to walk all the way into Noosa. There is a linear park along the Noosa River the whole way (this was not shown on Google maps).
