Itinerary description

If you want to do this route without having to go through a part of the road twice, the best option will be to go by car to Podhom. From there, you can access any of the car parks at the entrance to the gorge where you will find the ticket office. The stretch of the Radovna River is paid and not cheap, and it must be done in a downward direction from the water.

The other option is to approach, first of all, the area of the waterfall at the exit of the gorge and from there start the route in a clockwise direction leaving the descent of the river to the end.
To do this it is best to leave the vehicle in the car park near the Blejska Dobrava cemetery, from where you can easily reach the waterfall area.
The disadvantage of this option is that when you arrive at the entrance, the queue to enter will probably be longer.

In our case, and in spite of everything, we decided to start the route to Blejska Dobrava where you can get by train or bus.

On the other hand, the stretch between the village and the entrance to the gorge, which is what we repeat, runs through a beautiful forest, which makes the "disadvantage" of going back and forth through the same place a pleasure.

In addition, the route is very easy and without any orientation problems.

Of course, the section of the gorge formed by the Radovna River, which runs between two high stone walls and where vegetation grows in an exceptional state of conservation, should be highlighted.
In these about two km we follow the river by footbridges and bridges that make the path suitable for everyone. This allows us to comfortably enjoy a river in an almost wild state where the water makes its way between the stones forming noisy and sparkling falls and calm and transparent pools.

The rest of the route is a perfect complement to make the route more attractive, as we pass from a cool and shady landscape, while following the river, to another in which we walk under a dense forest until we reach Sveta Katarina, a small church, where we have wide views of the plain and towards the mountains.

Near the church we also find a place to stop to taste the local beer where they also make pizzas and other meals.

As you can see, this is an easy and familiar route where you can expect to find many people, especially in the gorge.

Blejska Dobrava

We start the route in Blejska Dobrava a neighborhood that belongs to the town of Jesenice. We start the route in front of the train station where the bus also stops. Both can be reached from Lake Bled, which is the most popular tourist spot in the area and may be from Slovenia. If you arrive by car you can park here but if you continue further on, on the outskirts of the village there is a car park next to the cemetery.

To enter the gorge we find a door with a locker where we have to pay and it is not cheap. It is usually very crowded so you may have to queue.

The third bridge is possibly the narrowest point, as you pass it the high walls begin to separate a little.

We pass under the railway bridge that connects Bled Lake and Vintgar station where we started the route. There is also a dam that generates a small waterfall.

We arrive at the exit of the gorge where there is also an access control door. Although before you could enter or leave at either end of the route, at this time you can only do so by entering through the door that we have done and continue downstream. At the exit you will find a small bar and down to the waterfall some utilities.

Cascada Šum

The Šum Waterfall or Noise Waterfall, which is the name of this waterfall, is about 13 m high and is where the Radovna River Gorge ends. When we pass, almost no water comes down, as almost everything is diverted by the canal that comes out of the dam we passed. This water is used to operate the small power plant below the waterfall. The best view is from the foot of the waterfall and there it is also possible to swim in the pool that forms, if you dare.
