Hello. I have questions about this path. Can you help me?
Yes, I can. What is your question?
Thanks for your response. :)
Are trails easy to find with a GPS device? Are the trails clearly visible and walkable?
How did you crossed parts of river? - you talked to local fishermen at that time, or have you organized it before? Did you sleep in tents or guest houses? Is water and food available every day? You went with the guide, or alone?
Sorry for many questions. I really want to go straight on your route.
Thank you very much. :)
No problem. I went with a guide. With the gps-dat you should find the trails. They are visible and walkable. The local people use these trails. There are two rivers we had to cross through the water (not possible if high water), one between Bumba an Karongi, the other between Karongi and L'Esperanza (Mugonero).
Two times you have to hire a boat. The boat to Karongi is run by Home St. Jean (Hotel) in Karongi. So call them will reach Karongi directly below Home St. Jean. Costs around 5.000 RWF. The second boat passage (L'Esperanza - Karengera) is more complicated because the fisherman doesn't speak english. So ask at L'Esperanza. They offer accomodation as well (recommended).
I slept in guesthouses and hotels. Water, you have to buy it at local shops when you pass through a village (but better take 2 litres with you in case you don't find a local shop.
The CongoNileHikingTrail is new. It is not marked yet (will be done this year) and very much better than the already signed Congo-Nile-Trail which is for bicycles.
Good luck. Enjoy your hike.
George
