Itinerary description
From Gisenyi to Cyimbiri
Through the whole way there were street signs for congo nile track, so you really don’t need a guide or even a map for this first day.
We didn’t know where the track starts exactly so we decided to take motorbike taxi to Bralirwa brewery (for 1500RWF each). Probably you can find cheaper locan transport or even walk this part.
The track was dirt road with hills but with just one longer elevation. Had it rain it could have been quite muddy but now it was easy all the way. Almost all the time there were people specially children on the way.
We passed many ”towns”, from whitch it’s possible to buy tea and local pastries. When we were looking to buy more water we noticed some of the shops were closed (it was saturday, idk if that got to do with it), so we ended up fillig our water bottle with tea and little while later found a store to buy water.
Locals were helpfull, you can ask them where to find water or directions and I was even allowed to use someones bathroom.
At the end of the trail there is a guesthouse (marked as basecamp on the street sings). You need to go through a school yard and after that on the right side there is a red gate, you find the guest house behind that.
We read before that room should be 10 000RWF and tenting 5 000 but we were asked for 20K for a room and 10K for camping. We bargained to 5K for tent and would have asked a room for 10K if we didn’t have a tent. They also sell dinner for 5000 and breakfast for 2000. When camping you can use the bathroom and shower inside the house.
